Seventy years ago The Master and Margaritacould not conceivably have been published in Stalinist Russia. It pretended to believe that even a fragment surfacing would bring madness upon its maker. But its reception into cult novel, tourist attraction, web fetish, Iron Maiden fodder - did it know of that?
