maybe some American Lucidity

Todd Solondz ought to work on something with Hedrick Smith. He almost certainly can't afford to retire...

In 1987 my job included signing off on financial plans submitted by reps around the US. I would scan 5-20 a night on the train. Most often the story they told was the same: of incomes too low to support both retirmeent (and other) savings and the lifetsyle we associate with consumer confidence. To save enough for retirment might mean not educating children, or moving into a much smaller house, or taking a night job on top of the day job. God forbid it might mean higher wages!

It seems that the risks have been shifted to those who a) cannot understand them and b) cannot shoulder them.

Survivor Island, the land of the hopeful and plucky losers, is a very big place, almost the size of the US in fact.

Don't forget the soulful and ducky winner on American Idol. The two modules are part of one general bogosity. And, thanks - this is the sort of candor that USians need in order to begin to smell the scam.
