Creditor-Media Matrix Manifesto

There will be no radical changes in the personnel of the present efficient staff. Mr. Charles R. Miller, who has so ably for many years presided over the editorial pages, will continue to be the editor; nor will there be a departure from the general tone and character and policies pursued with relation to public questions that have distinguished The New-York Times as a non-partisan newspaper — unless it be, if possible, to intensify its devotion to the cause of sound money and tariff reform, opposition to wastefulness and peculation in administering public affairs, and in its advocacy of the lowest tax consistent with good government, and no more government than is absolutely necessary to protect society, maintain individual and vested rights, and assure the free exercise of a sound conscience.
Adolph Ochs, upon purchasing the New York Times in 1896 - via A Tiny Revolution.

Nothing here happened today

Jason Jones visits the lady

But see Jay/Dave:

The New York Times has a neighborhood blogging experiment, The Local. This week it extended an invitation to users: be the journalist. "Here is your first assignment: We're looking for someone to go to the 88th Precinct Community Council meeting next Wednesday, the 10th."

A progression? See Mr. Cubeta:

The development of professionals in this field of fields goes like this:

  1. Diffident ignorance.
  2. Confident siloed expertise, blind and deaf to disciplines beyond the specialist's own.
  3. Panic and dread at being exposed to one's own ignorance of all but a narrow band of knowledge.
  4. Disdain and contempt for "the dark side," or the "touchy feely types," or "the mixed motives sorts."
  5. A growing set of friendships across the sectors
  6. Humilty and graciousness; a sense of appreciation for what others bring to the table.
  7. Team play.
  8. World changing results.

The Times has been at #4 for a while. Is the jocularity and call to neighborhoods a sign of moving past that, or merely another effort to market the seeming of that?

Peter Sunde says Media r Funny

I don’t dislike that many of the journalists. I mostly dislike the editors that can’t even say that they’ve done wrong when it’s so clear that it happened. #

Sunde of The Pirate Bay makes a key distinction one rarely sees being made. Some editors I've known are a combination of bean counter and mid-management suck-all, looking out for the best interests of the capitalized entity that promises to pay them now, and after they retire.

the poo of homogenized discourse

Jeremiah Owyang (friend of Dave Winer) posted a message [on friendfeed]:

Despite all the hubbub about Blogs 'killing' mainstream media in 2005-2006, most of today's top blogs resemble mainstream media or star columnists.
A hubbub of comments ensued.

kiwi light:
The room is painted a "poo" brown. - not very nice. When you buy telepresence you buy the room including all the furnishings etc. this means that every telepresence room looks the same so even if you are using telepresence with other companies you still get the feeling that you are around the same table

trompe l'oeil images.

In both instances, a corporate illusion is introduced to create perspectival effects of continuity, simultaneity, likeness. A necessary part of incorporation?
